Summer is Asphalt Driveway Repair Time

Your asphalt driveway is an investment that is worth protecting. Spend a little time patching and sealing now and you can extend the life of your blacktop and protect yourself from having to remove and replace the whole driveway. There’s no better time of year to restore asphalt than right now, when the weather is warm and dry.

Seize the warm weather to prepare your asphalt driveway for winter’s challenges. How much will  you need to clean, repair and seal your asphalt to protect it from further damage. Do an inspection and take a close look at the driveway. Are there any potholes that will only grow when the weather begins a winter freeze-thaw cycle? If so, they must be repaired now, before there is rain to fill them with water that will freeze, expand and widen the pothole. Find the cracks that need to be filled. Decide if it is time to do a sealcoat.

If seal coating, scrub grease stains with hot, soapy water and a stiff-bristle scrub brush If that doesn’t work, use a degreaser like Oil Eater or ZEP - Heavy Duty Citrus Degreaser to remove all stains so there is no problem with adhesion.

For potholes, use FloMix to quickly and easily fill and waterproof the damage. To fix cracks, use PolyFlexDS Black in cartridges to get in and fill all the small cracks. To begin with either product, sweep and clear all cracks of debris. If there is any moisture, use a butane torch to completely dry the damaged area. Mix your pail of FloMix and place or open and assemble the cartridge and inject into the cracks. Top with sand for a non-slip surface.

For large driveways with big cracks, potholes or larger areas of deterioration, use the VariFlo Polymer Dispensing Machine to fill and repair the damage. Clean and dry the asphalt before beginning your repair. Connect your machine and fill the damaged asphalt before topping with the provided topping sand. Sweep when dry and your repair is complete in about an hour.

Now your driveway is ready to be sealed and prepped for a smooth Summer and an eventual winter’s wrath.
