At Roklin we know potholes. We make products specifically designed for pothole repair: a 3- and 5-gallon repair kit for use on either asphalt or concrete. We also are surrounded by potholes all over Ventura county. With California finally getting much-needed rain, we also have much-dreaded potholes. While we hope that these potholes will eventually repaired with FloMix or FlexSet we’d like to offer some driving tips in the meantime.
When driving in the rain, it is essential to make sure your tires are properly inflated. This will help prevent hydroplaning as well as prevent tire damage due to potholes. Properly-inflated tires withstand the impact of potholes better than tires that are under or over-inflated.
When you know you can’t avoid a pothole, slow down before you hit it. Don’t brake directly over a pothole, because this can cause more tire damage. As you drive over the pothole, hold the steering wheel firmly with both hands to avoid losing control. Lastly, use caution when driving over a puddle of water because it might be a pothole in disguise.
